Juniper Networks announced a new innovation that will power its vision and strategy for Cloud Metro. Cloud Metro is a new category of solutions for service providers, which is optimized for metro transformation and sustainable business growth. The traditional ‘retro’ metro networks are struggling to keep up with the increasing demands of digital transformation and 5G services.

Juniper’s Cloud Metro systems feature unique energy-efficient designs that allow unused features and Packet Forwarding Engines to be automatically turned off when not in use. The removable modular power shelf design reduces e-waste and accommodates up to 48 times bandwidth growth within the same chassis, extending system lifetimes.

Juniper’s use of AI and cloud-delivered automation helps service providers to simplify their workflows, deploy services faster, reduce trouble tickets, and speed up time-to-service restoration. As a result, productivity is improved, empowering network engineers and operators to do more.

“In a world of ‘retro metros,’ Juniper’s new Cloud Metro solution stands apart. Our cloud-delivered Paragon Automation-as-a-Service promises immediate productivity increases for service providers. Instead of building complex, time-consuming ‘DIY’ automation solutions, they are empowered to focus on assuring service experiences for their customers. By extending our proven AI solution to the service provider WAN, we can improve productivity for customer operations teams by dramatically reducing trouble tickets and increasing network availability. And our extended ACX7000 Family delivers the most secure, assured, scalable and intelligent Cloud Metro portfolio on the market. This is the answer to service provider needs for a sustainable future for their profits, their people and the planet,” said Brendan Gibbs, Senior Vice President of Automated WAN Solutions, Juniper Networks.

Juniper’s cloud metro solutions include:

  • Juniper Paragon Automation as a Service – AI-enabled, cloud-delivered automation portfolio for metro networks that delivers immediate time-to-service value from months to minutes and reduces mean time to know (MTTK) and mean time to recovery.
  • Juniper AI-Enabled Device Onboarding-as-a-Service – Leverages Juniper Paragon Automation as a Service thereby speeding up device onboarding and driving real business outcomes.
  • Juniper Networks ACX7000 Family – This includes sustainable, high-performance systems that make use of the unique design and adaptive power innovations resulting in 77% reduced power consumption, improved space efficiencies (64%) and an increased system lifetime of 4-7 years.
  • Juniper Paragon Active Assurance– These are test agents embedded in JUNOS® OS Evolved which turns the cloud metro network into a distributed sensor for assuring a proactive user experience. This eliminates the requirement of deploying additional, standalone probe hardware. By emulating 5G UE/gNB, service providers will be able to simulate traffic for both the control plane and user plane and ensure that each 5G network slice meets the expected SLA.
  • Zero Trust Security - The Juniper Cloud Metro solution comprises threat detection, analysis, and prevention from Juniper’s Connected Security portfolio. Unique cryptographic digital identities are implemented across the Cloud Metro IP services fabric using the Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0). This enables device attestation and secure zero-touch provisioning (sZTP) which is RFC-compliant. The file encryption and MACsec protect data at rest and in transit. Paragon’s ability to automatically validate the security deployment and operation across a network of ACX7000 devices further improves the holistic approach to trust.
  • Juniper Networks 400G ZR/ZR+ optics – It reduces service provider costs by consolidating IP and optical layers with coherent pluggable optics thereby eliminating an entire layer of DWDM transponder terminals by combining 400G ZR/ZR+ Digital Coherent Optics (DCO).
