The Internet Infrastructure Coalition (i2Coalition) is about to host a program with leaders of the Internet infrastructure industry and members of Congress to discuss policy goals for the 113thCongress and educate attendees about the benefits of a free and open Internet. In the recent past, i2Coalition has expressed concern over legislation including the Protect IP Act and the Stop Online Piracy Act – both shelved following an outcry of opposition. Earlier this month, Board Chair Christian Dawson emphasized that his group could work with lawmakers to develop internet-related legislation.
“The development of strong cybersecurity structure needs to be truly voluntary and one that fosters a multi-stakehoder process. It is that process that brings together active participants in all aspects of the Internet’s infrastructure and one that reaches consensus on policies that ensure there is no better place to do business on the Internet than the United States.” Dawson commented in a previous statement.
Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS), Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA), Alexis Ohanian, Reddit Co-Founder and Christian Dawson, i2Coalition Co-Founder and Board Chair, will be speaking at the event. Senators Moran and Wyden and Congressman Issa will each be receiving the i2Coalition’s “Champion of Internet Innovation” award.
