Fujitsu and AMD have formed a strategic partnership to drive sustainable computing advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC). Under a newly signed memorandum of understanding, the two companies will collaborate to develop open-source, energy-efficient platforms that address the rising demand for high-performance AI solutions. This partnership aims to prioritize energy efficiency as AI applications, including generative AI, continue to expand rapidly.
Fujitsu is enhancing its technology with the FUJITSU-MONAKA, a next-generation Arm-based processor designed for high performance with low power use. Together with AMD’s Instinct™ accelerators, this processor is set to handle large AI workloads efficiently, helping data centers reduce overall costs.
The collaboration will focus on three strategic areas: engineering, ecosystems, and business. This will integrate Fujitsu’s leading supercomputer CPU technology with AMD’s industry-leading GPU technology, with the goal of jointly developing innovative computing platforms for AI and HPC by 2027.
Furthermore, the partnership will enhance collaboration with the open-source community through AMD’s ROCm™ software, an open-source AI/HPC stack for GPUs, and Fujitsu’s FUJITSU-MONAKA software. Both companies are committed to advancing open-source AI software that is optimized for their respective computing platforms while expanding the overall ecosystem.
Fujitsu and AMD will also work together on marketing initiatives and co-creation efforts with customers to promote these AI computing platforms on a global scale. The partnership seeks to broaden AI use cases and facilitate the societal implementation of AI by building a more sustainable AI/HPC platform ecosystem, supported by joint customer centers.
Through this strategic alliance, Fujitsu and AMD aim to push forward open-source AI initiatives by providing sustainable, high-performance computing options that are accessible and efficient, promoting broader AI adoption worldwide.
