Equinix continues its acquisition spree, expands footprint in Iberia to interconnect Europe, Latin America and Africa

Global interconnection and data center company – Equinix Inc. recently announced entering into an agreement with The Carlyle Group, for acquiring leading data center, cloud infrastructure and connectivity provider in Spain and Portugal – Itconic, and its subsidiary CloudMas which supports enterprise adoption and consumption of cloud services.

The acquisition will close by Q4 2017, subject to various regulatory and customary approvals.

The acquisition of Itconic will strengthen Equinix’s position in Europe. The company will acquire five datacenters in four metros – two in Madrid, one in Seville, one in Lisbon and one in Barcelona, post-acquisition.

With this, approximately 322,000 gross square-feet of area will get added to the Equinix IBX (International Business Exchange) datacenter portfolio.

The CloudMas acquisition will bring highly experienced team of professionals and experts (more than 250) trained in hybrid cloud adoption, architecture and migration strategies, in the Equinix team in Europe.

Faustino Jiménez, CEO, Itconic said that the acquisition will be highly beneficial for companies operating in Iberian Peninsula as they will be able to get access to the world’s largest network of interconnected data centers, with more than 180 centers located in 44 markets.

Earlier in August, Equinix announced launching its fifth IBX datacenter in Hong Kong, expected to be complete by Q4 2017.

Equinix announced in a blog that it will open five new IBX datacenters, expand 14 existing facilities and acquire lands to support expansion, this year.

Equinix will acquire Itconic and CloudMas in an all cash transaction of €215M (approximately $259M dollars).
