8×8 Joins Ocean Tomo 300(R) Patent Index

DAILYHOSTNEWS, November 15, 2011 – 8×8, Inc., provider of innovative cloud communications and computing solutions, today announced that it has been included in the highly regarded Ocean Tomo 300(R) Patent Index (OT300), the industry’s first index based on the value of corporate intellectual property. The Ocean Tomo 300 represents a diversified portfolio of 300 companies that own the most valuable patents relative to their book value and includes well-known names such as Hewlett Packard, InterDigital, Pfizer and Tellabs. This year, 8×8 joins 79 companies contributing to the index for the first time.

Since its establishment in 1987, 8×8 has been awarded seventy-eight (78) United States patents covering a variety of voice and video communications, signaling, processing and storage technologies. Recently, the company was granted United States Patent number 8,027,332 entitled “Virtual Telephone Extension.” The patent issued on September 27, 2011 relates to call routing to user communication devices.

The OT300 is priced and published by the NYSE Euronext (nyse euronext:OTPAT) and has been recognized by the exchange as the first major broad market index in 35 years. The 300 member companies have an average market capitalization of $27 billion, and a median market capitalization of $9 billion. The small cap, mid cap, and large cap securities are weighted roughly 10%, 40%, and 50%, respectively. The three sectors with the greatest weightings are Technology (35%), Consumer Non-Durables (29%), and Basic Materials (10%).
