Day 2 of WHD.India 2013 kicked off this morning with an interestingly titled session “Go Beyond email.” Interesting because even though emails significantly shape most of our official conversation, how many of us take it seriously enough, let alone thinking to “go beyond” it?

Mr. Ernst Kelting, VP Sales APAC, Open-Xchange thinks you should; and to add to it, he wants to let you know that you can even derive profit from your email.

Beginning the session with showing how technological advances over the last couple of years like webification of software, cloud computing, mobilization etc. have transformed the email user experience, Mr. Ernst emphasized the fact that the mobile devices are shifting how businesses and people interact with their world, and quoted a survey by Nielsen Mobile Media View Internet to show that mobile users spend most of their time on internet to use email services (25 mins.), in addition to many other like videos, movies, sports, social networking, music and basically everything, making mobile-app economy a “sweet opportunity” that should be grabbed.

Referring to the App- market as a potential revenue-generating business model because netizens depend heavily on apps for most of their information, entertainment etc., Mr. Ernst told service providers how they can use Open-Xchange flagship product, OX App Suite- an innovative open source communication platform that provides a totally device and OS agnostic suite of productivity applications, integrating office, email and social media feeds all in one streamlined Web interface, to boost their profits.

Service providers can use OX App Suite to create additional business on top of their email platform by providing their customers with an extra range of value-added services around Open-Xchange’s unique “application upsell mechanism” that can become part of their daily routine . The services can also be upgraded by the customers without having to leave the interface.

Mr. Ernst also introduced attendees to the recently released OX Text, which allows for real-time editing of all major office formats, including Microsoft and OpenOffice.

Using OX Text, groups of users can also work on a document simultaneously, each seeing the changes as they happen. OX Documents is available separately and as an extension on the functionality of OX App Suite as well.
