Equinix Expands AWS Direct Connect service to Seattle Data Centers SE2 and SE3

2 Mins read

Nearly two months after announcing availability of NetApp Private Storage for AWS in its Datacenters, Equinix today expanded the AWS Direct Connect service to its IBX data centers in Seattle, SE2 and SE3.

The announcement comes with the launch event of Equinix’s new Washington, D.C. data center DC11. The company has released a new infographic on the DC 11 facility drawing some very interesting analogies to show the state-of-the-art infrastructure that is in place. (Please see at the end of the post.)

AWS Direct Connect helps customers reduce network costs and increase throughput by establishing a private network connection between their infrastructure and Amazon Web Services.

By leveraging AWS Direct Connect inside Equinix data centers, customers can take advantage of the cost savings and performance benefits of hybrid environments. As we continue to support expansion of the AWS Direct Connect service to new markets, we are removing barriers to adoption and enabling customers to deliver on the promise of cloud computing. – Mr. Chris Sharp, GM, Cloud, Equinix.

Existing Equinix customers will also benefit from the same by connecting to AWS Direct Connect inside the SE2 and SE3. This direct connection will help them achieve millisecond latency between their infrastructure and AWS infrastructure, thereby significantly enhancing the application performance and security.

“By leveraging AWS Direct Connect inside Equinix data centers, customers can take advantage of the cost savings and performance benefits of hybrid environments,” said Mr. Chris Sharp, GM, Cloud and content, Equinix.

“As we continue to support expansion of the AWS Direct Connect service to new markets, we are removing barriers to adoption and enabling customers to deliver on the promise of cloud computing,” he added.

Many of the Equinix’s customers, including the likes of Carpathia Hosting and NetApp, have been using AWS Direct Connect with great results.

With this move, Equinix customers also get to connect to the AWS GovCloud (US) from all existing AWS Direct locations in North America. US government agencies and customers can move their sensitive workloads into the cloud by addressing specific regulatory and compliance requirements of AWS GovCloud (US).

First rolled out at Equinix’s Ashburn, Virginia data center, AWS Direct Connect has since expanded to company’s locations in Seattle, Silicon Valley, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.

Equinix’s SE3 IBX data center opened earlier this year serves as a gateway to Asia Pacific and offers customers the opportunity to extend their footprint in the Northwestern United States and Western Canada.
