Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE) has unveiled a new cloud service aimed at capitalizing on the growing demand for generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The product, known as HPE GreenLake for Large Language Models (LLMs), provides a cloud-based supercomputing service that supports the training and deployment of LLMs and other generative AI models.
This move places HPE in direct competition with major cloud computing providers such as Amazon.com, Microsoft Corp, and Alphabet Inc’s Google, as they all strive to adapt their extensive data centers for the increasing popularity of AI-backed services like chatbots and image generators.
With HPE GreenLake for LLMs, enterprises now can privately train, fine-tune, and deploy large-scale AI using an environmentally sustainable supercomputing platform, which combines HPE’s AI software with state-of-the-art supercomputers. HPE has collaborated with Aleph Alpha, a German AI partner, to offer a pre-trained LLM called Luminous, designed specifically for text and image processing. Unlike ChatGPT, Luminous is targeted more towards industry, government, healthcare, financial services, and legal professionals.
Orders for HPE GreenLake for LLMs are already being accepted, and the service is expected to become more widely available by the end of 2023, starting with North America and followed by Europe in early 2024.
OpsRamp enhances HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform and sustainability dashboard
In addition to HPE GreenLake for LLMs, HPE has also announced a range of new services to expand its GreenLake platform. This platform provides on-premises solutions in a cloud-like, subscription-based, as-a-service model.
One notable addition is OpsRamp, a Software as a Service (SaaS) offering from Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s subsidiary, which enables full stack observability and automation across hybrid, multi-vendor, and multi-cloud environments. These features empower customers to streamline operations, reduce complexity, and optimize costs within their hybrid cloud estates.
OpsRamp also enhances HPE’s sustainability dashboard, offering visibility into IT assets and applications across diverse vendor and cloud environments. The sustainability dashboard, available in early access mode, complements the GreenLake platform, providing customers with valuable insights to drive sustainable practices.
HPE expands GreenLake portfolio for modern private clouds and partner ecosystem
Organizations are increasingly adopting private cloud offerings to achieve greater visibility, control, and predictability of their workloads and data across various environments. HPE GreenLake’s portfolio of private cloud offerings continues to expand, providing customers with a simple, flexible, and intuitive experience for running modern private clouds.
- The introduction of HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Business Edition allows customers to spin up virtual machines (VMs) across hybrid clouds on demand and self-manage their private cloud infrastructure with AIOps-driven simplicity.
- HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise enhances edge use cases by enabling connectivity to distributed IT locations and offers upcoming support for deploying Red Hat OpenShift. It also provides hybrid and multi-cloud capabilities with major cloud providers.
- HPE GreenLake Flex Solutions offer customers the option to build customized private cloud offerings using standardized modules, providing speed and simplicity.
- HPE and VMware expand their partnership with HPE GreenLake for VMware Cloud Foundation, delivering pre-configured and tested cloud modules optimized for VMware Cloud Foundation on a pay-per-use basis.
- Equinix data centers worldwide will pre-provision HPE’s expanded private cloud portfolio, enabling customers to rapidly deploy modern private clouds with increased choice and flexibility.
Expanded HPE GreenLake hybrid cloud services
HPE is expanding its portfolio of Software as a Service (SaaS) and Network as a Service (NaaS) offerings on the HPE GreenLake platform.
- HPE is adding its SaaS offerings to the AWS Marketplace, strengthening its relationship with AWS and simplifying hybrid cloud transformation for customers.
- HPE GreenLake for Backup and Recovery now offers enhanced capabilities to protect on-premises and cloud databases managed by Microsoft SQL Server and Amazon RDS.
- The HPE Machine Learning Development Environment is now available through HPE GreenLake for High Performance Computing (HPC), providing optimized AI infrastructure and machine learning software.
- HPE Aruba Networking’s data center switching portfolio, including CX 8000, 9000, and 10000 series, can now be consumed via Network as a Service (NaaS) on HPE GreenLake. The introduction of HPE GreenLake for Aruba networking service packs allows partners to bundle design and delivery services with a monthly NaaS technology subscription, offering customers a comprehensive data center stack through HPE GreenLake.
