Edge as a service

IT infrastructure and services company, NTT Ltd., recently launched Edge-as-a-Service, which is a managed edge compute platform that enables enterprises to deploy quickly and manage and monitor applications closer to the edge.

NTT’s Edge-as-a-Service offering is a globally available integrated solution that speeds up business process automation. It offers near-zero latency for enterprise applications at the network edge, thereby optimizing costs and boosting end-user experiences in a secure environment.

NTT and VMware together with Intel are working to develop new solutions and services that focus on the edge. NTT is leveraging VMware’s Edge Compute Stack to power its new Edge-as-a-Service offering. Additionally, VMware is incorporating NTT’s Private 5G technologies into its edge solution. The companies will work together to market the offering through coordinated co-innovation, sales, and business development.

“Combining Edge and Private 5G is a game changer for our customers and the entire industry, and we are making it available today,” said Shahid Ahmed, Group EVP, New Ventures and Innovation CEO, NTT. “The combination of NTT and VMware’s Edge Compute Stack and Private 5G delivers a unique solution that will drive powerful outcomes for enterprises eager to optimize the performance and cost efficiencies of critical applications at the network edge. Minimum latency, maximum processing power, and global coverage are exactly what enterprises need to accelerate their unique digital transformation journeys.”

This solution uses seamless multi-cloud and multi-tenant connectivity along with NTT’s network segmentation capabilities, and expertise with movement from private to public 5G. It offers significant benefits to multiple industries, like manufacturing, retail, logistics, and entertainment.

Edge Compute Services

Edge-as-a-Service enables enterprises to discover new possibilities and use cases by combining Private 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), and operational technology (OT) with edge computing. It allows you to create networks, operations, and edge computing that work together to provide real-time automation and processing. NTT’s Edge-as-a-Service manages and delivers on-demand automation and user experience to improve operational efficiency, security, and business growth.

With more and more devices becoming digital, organizations need to have intelligent data to act quickly. This is especially important for critical processes that need security and speed. NTT’s full stack of managed Edge Compute Services enables enterprises to make sure that on-site, real-time intelligence is driving processing efficiency, and enabling collaboration between people and devices to accelerate business performance.

Key outcomes of Edge Compute Services

Real-time decisions

The use of machine learning and artificial intelligence on-premises enables enterprises to take real-time decisions, resulting in greater efficiency and lower costs.

Secure

As NTT’s Edge Compute Services and Private 5G store process local data on-premises, it provides extra security.

New outcomes and use cases

Edge Compute Services and IoT solutions can provide new outcomes through solutions that would be very expensive with a traditional cloud-computing model.

Greater reliability

Edge-computing frameworks distribute processing tasks across the network, making the system more resilient.

Integration for enhanced performance

Enterprises can seamlessly integrate Private 5G and Edge Compute Services into their large area network (LAN) for greater access, security, and reach.
