Extends Footprint with Singapore Data Center and Network PoPs in Tokyo and Hong Kong

SoftLayer Technologies, the hosting provider, announced on Monday the upcoming opening of the company’s new data center in Singapore and network Points of Presence (PoPs) in Singapore, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Customers can pre-order services in the new data center from Sept 23 and it will be deployed when the data center and PoPs officially “go live” on Oct. 3.

The new data center designated SNG01 features the following:

  • Capacity for more than 16,000 servers
  • Redundant network infrastructure
  • Fully-automated platform
  • Unique pod design concept

SNG01 and the Tokyo and Hong Kong PoPs feature connectivity from multiple Tier-1 network carriers, including NTT, Tata, and Equinix, with direct network connections to SoftLayer facilities in San Jose and Los Angeles. With the strategic location of the Asia-Pacific operations and the exceptional speed of the SoftLayer network, customers and end users anywhere in the region can connect to SoftLayer services with less than 40ms of latency.

Lance Crosby, Chief Executive Officer for SoftLayer, quoted, “We are excited to bring our unique solutions to hosting to the Asia-Pacific region. We’ve had an international customer base for quite some time, with almost half of our 23,000 customers coming from more than 140 countries besides the U.S. But we couldn’t be happier to now have a truly international presence, putting our industry-leading solutions so much closer to our customers and their countless end users.”

“Everything we do is designed to give customers more control, and this expansion is no different,” said George Karidis, Chief Strategy Officer for SoftLayer. “New and existing customers across the region will now have direct access through the SoftLayer Private Network to our automated platform. They can manage and deploy their Dedicatedand Cloud services on their own terms—whether that’s in Singapore or in any of our other data centers. And they can provide an experience that’s better than ever for their end users in the region.”

The opening of the Asia facilities will soon be followed by the launch of SoftLayer’s Amsterdamdata center and European PoPs, scheduled for early November. SoftLayer will then have 13 data centers and 16 PoPs worldwide. Each data center is functionally independent with distinct and redundant resources, as well as fully integrated with all SoftLayer facilities. The company’s global network fully integrates three distinct and redundant network architectures—Public, Private, and Data Center to Data Center—into the industry’s first Network-Within-a-Network topology for maximum accessibility, security, and control.
