Microsoft is starting the new year with a real joyful news as its Windows 10 has now become the most popular operating system version.

According to a report by web analytics firm Net Market Share, Windows 10 is currently holding 39.22% market share across desktop/laptop devices. Launched around three and half years ago, Windows 10 surpassed the Windows 7 in December, which accounts for 36.9% market share.

Windows 10 provides a more personalized experience to users, while bringing together and taking everything in Windows 7 and Windows 8 to the next level.

When the company launched Windows 10, it had plans to get the OS used on a billion devices within next three years. But the company had to extend this timeline because of failure of Windows phone. As of now, over 700 million devices are running Windows 10.

Following Windows 10 and Windows 7, the Mac OS X 10.14 ranks third. The Mac OS version is just above Microsoft’s Windows XP and Windows 8.1. The surprising thing is that Windows XP is still ahead of Windows 8.1.

Microsoft has been continuously working on Windows 10 since its release to make it the preferred choice of individuals and enterprises. It is reported that the tech giant is quietly improving the user interface of Windows Mixed Reality with 19H1 builds.

The updated UI will include new Start menu, new shortcuts, new UI controls, changes to Windows Mixed Reality Portal, etc.

The popularity of Window 10 will continue to increase, whereas Windows 7 will shrink over the time. One of the main reason behind it is that the company won’t provide support and security updates for Windows 7 from January 2020. The enterprises who need security updates after the deadline, will have to pay for it.
