Alibaba Cloud is expanding its reach in India with the launch of its second datacenter (availability zone) in the country.

The new datacenter will be located in Mumbai, the City of Dreams. Initially, Alibaba Cloud Mumbai datacenter will provide only Elastic Computing Service (ECS) and Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) offerings.

Being a leading public cloud provider, Alibaba Cloud will soon expand its product portfolio to include database, network, application services, as well as big data analytics. The company aims to support the demand for these services for local governments and enterprises in India.

“The commencement of the second availability zone reiterates our focus on India as a key market in Alibaba Cloud’s global expansion strategy,” said Alex Li, General Manager, Alibaba Cloud India.

“India presents a unique growth opportunity with digital transformation set to add close to $154 billion to India’s GDP.”

Alibaba Cloud had established its first availability zone in India earlier this year to address the need for cloud computing services by the rising number of SMBs in the country.

Both the availability zones are located in Mumbai only. The company said that the dual availability zones will strengthen the security of Alibaba Cloud’s datacenters in India.

With the new AZ, the company will be able to expand its global footprint, serve its local customers, and target new customers.

Further, Alibaba Cloud claims that dual AZs will make the workloads more reliable with almost no downtime. The services will come with detection and repair modules for high availability.
