GitHub, the leading software development platform, has launched a number of new features for its enterprise users with the launch of GitHub Enterprise 2.14.

When Microsoft acquired GitHub last month for $7.5 billion, CEO Satya Nadella said that the acquisition will expand the adoption of GitHub among enterprise developers. The launch of GitHub Enterprise 2.14 is a step toward that goal.

One of the main feature announced is a ‘unified search’ tool that allows developers on GitHub Business Cloud to access public repositories on the service. They can find public content and collaborate with the entire GitHub community without sacrificing security, said GitHub.

Previously, the developers on Business Cloud couldn’t access the public open-source repositories on GitHub. The Enterprise 2.14 is a significant update for developers, because most of the open-source software is hosted on GitHub. And the new features will ease access to a very important asset.

GitHub Enterprise now also features an ability to ignore whitespace when reviewing code. It will help developers to understand code updates easily.

Multiple issue updates, another new feature, is targeted at project maintainers. For projects with multiple collaborators, the project maintainers will be able to organize contributions and reduce noise, as well as improve setup process.

For the projects that require additional reviews for code changes, there is a new multiple reviewer requirement feature. Users can now set the number of reviewers for any project.

There are more new features, most of which are to improve usability. Developers can now create a support ticket right from Enterprise and send diagnostic information to get help faster. Check out the full list of features here.

The updates released today are the biggest ones since Microsoft acquired GitHub.

“Microsoft is a developer-first company, and by joining forces with GitHub we strengthen our commitment to developer freedom, openness and innovation,” Satya Nadella had said about GitHub acquisition.

“We recognize the community responsibility we take on with this agreement and will do our best work to empower every developer to build, innovate and solve the world’s most pressing challenges.”
