Intel doubles capacity of its data center SSD to address demanding storage and memory challenges

1 Mins read

The semiconductor chip maker – Intel, made an announcement to enhance its data center solid state drive, Intel Optane SSD DC P4800X Series, with increased capacity and multiple form factors.

When Intel had launched Optane SSD DC P4800X Series earlier this year, it was available with 375GB half-height, half-length add-in card. It’s now available with 750GB capacity in both half-height, half-length add-in card and a hot-swappable 2.5-inch U.2 form factor.

Intel’s aim behind launching Optane SSD DC was to address the most demanding storage and memory challenges, since DRAM is very expensive to scale, and NAND doesn’t offer sufficient performance to function in memory space.

Intel said that Optane SSD DC P4800X is an ideal SSD (solid state drive) for storage workloads, such as SAN (storage area network), software defined storage, and cloud, database, big data, and high-performance computing workloads.

The increased capacity and multiple form factors enhance this drive with more options for data center deployment and ensure flexibility in total cost of ownership as well.

Since Optane SSD DC P4800X integrates the attributes of memory and storage, it results in low latency, high throughput, high QoS, and high endurance. It will help companies overcome their storage challenges and increase their scale per server, while decreasing the transaction costs.

Intel has integrated its Xeon Scalable processors into Optane technology, which allows more datasets (even with generous size) to gain new insights from larger memory tools.

Intel Optane SSD DC P4800X Series will be broadly available this month. It’s also available as a part of Intel Select Solutions program and through additional OEMs, cloud service providers and distributors starting this month.
