Enterprise developers can now containerize legacy apps using new IBM Cloud Private

1 Mins read

IBM has built a new software platform called IBM Cloud Private that enables the developers to containerize legacy WebSphere and Db2 apps as cloud native apps that run in a private cloud or behind the firewall.

IBM supports Docker EE, and is a platinum sponsor of Cloud Foundry Foundation. Being an active contributor to the Kubernetes, IBM has built the Cloud Private on Kubernetes open container technology with support of Docker and Cloud Foundry.

The Cloud Private is an easier platform that let the developers connect and move apps to any public cloud, even if the cloud is from any other provider.

IBM Cloud Private provides operations teams with orchestration and management tools, and includes containerized versions of IBM WebSphere, which is used by 90% of the Fortune 100 companies. The developers get access to all these development tools and services that help them build the code faster and meet the innovation they need.

“Innovation and adoption of public cloud services has been constrained by the challenge of transitioning complex enterprise systems and applications into a true cloud-native environment,” said Arvind Krishna, Senior Vice President for IBM Hybrid Cloud and Director of IBM Research. “IBM Cloud Private brings rapid application development and modernization to existing IT infrastructure and positions it to be combined with the services and experience of a public cloud platform.”

With Cloud Private, organizations can easily shift their on-premises data and applications into private clouds, and further into public clouds as well.

The existing or new systems from every major hardware vendors including Dell EMC, Cisco Systems Inc. and Lenovo Group, etc. are compatible with the IBM Cloud Private, and can be deployed by the clients.

The aim of IBM is to offer a consistent platform for managing the IT stack, whether the apps are in cloud, data center or moving between the two.

IBM is planning to invest over $100 billion a year for next three years to create private clouds.
