Google and Cisco join forces to work towards a hybrid cloud world

1 Mins read

Google Cloud and Cisco Systems recently joined hands to provide enterprise customers with security and agility in a modern hybrid world with an open, completely supported hybrid cloud-computing solution. The joint hybrid cloud offering will enable customers to manage, develop and secure services and applications across the data centers and in cloud.

Enterprises will have maximized benefits of their investments with a way to run, protect and monitor workloads, plan migration and avoid vendor lock-in. Organizations can build new apps on-premises or in the Google Cloud using the existing developer tools, run-time, and production environment.

“This joint solution from Google and Cisco facilitates an easy and incremental approach to tapping the benefits of the Cloud. This is what we hear customers asking for,” said Diane Greene, CEO, Google Cloud.

The new hybrid cloud solution helps developers utilize GCP Service Catalog, managed Kubernetes, Cisco networking and security, service mesh monitoring and Istio authentication. The enterprise app developers will have secure access to cloud APIs, and cloud developers will have secure access to enterprise APIs and on-premises resources. The legacy workloads running on-premises can connect to cloud through APIs using Apigee, the enterprise-grade API management tool from Google.

Developers can speed up the modernization of apps on-premises with the use of Kubernetes container strategy. Cisco’s cloud-ready solutions for Kubernetes and containers enhance the security and consumption policies. Developers can code in hybrid environments using the DevNet Developer Center tools of Cisco.

“Our partnership with Google gives our customers the very best cloud has to offer— agility and scale, coupled with enterprise-class security and support,” said Chuck Robbins, chief executive officer, Cisco. “We share a common vision of a hybrid cloud world that delivers the speed of innovation in an open and secure environment to bring the right solutions to our customers.”

Google’s Istio, the open-source, container- and microservice optimized technology, helps developers apply new portable services, along with the ability to configure and manage the services centrally.

The joint solution will be available to a limited number of customers during first half of 2018, and will be generally available in the second half of the year.
