Good news for the Dropbox users!! Dropbox users can now enable 2-step verification to secure their Dropbox accounts. Two-step verification is an optional but highly recommended security feature that adds an extra layer of protection to a Dropbox account. Once enabled, Dropbox will require a six-digit security code in addition to the password whenever the account user sign in to Dropbox or link a new computer, phone, or tablet.
In two step verification, users will be provided with a six digit code sent to them via text to enable secure login. The smartphones users (Android, BlackBerry, iOS or Windows Phone) can download the Authenticator app to generate the time-sensitive codes locally on their Smartphones.
You can enable the two-step verification by following these steps:
- Sign in to the Dropbox website (if you haven’t already).
- Click on your name from the upper-right of any page to open your account menu.
- Click Settings from the account menu and select the Security tab.
- Under the Account sign in section, next to Two-step verification, toggle (change).
- Enter your password
- Choose whether you would like to receive the security code via text message or mobile app
- If you have opted for Use Text Message, then it will ask for the phone number where you’d like to receive text messages
- If you have opted for Use Mobile App, then it will ask you to configure an authenticator app
In addition, Dropbox will also provide you special 16-digit backup code for emergency purpose (If you ever lose your phone or cannot receive or generate a security code).

I use Two-Factor Authentication across a lot of my accounts. I feel a lot more secure when I can telesign into my account. If you have that option available to you use it, it is worth the time and effort to have the confidence that your account won't get hacked and your personal information isn't up for grabs. I'm hoping that more companies start to offer this awesome functionality. This should be a prerequisite to any system that wants to promote itself as being secure.
