Kenneth G. Brill, Founder, Uptime Institute, has passed away.
Mr. Brill pioneered several innovations in the data center industry over the past 25 years, including dual power, the industry’s Tier system for evaluating and classifying data center facility performance, and IT/facility energy efficiency and productivity measurement.
His research into the economic meltdown of Moore’s Law, data center productivity and energy efficiency, and IT’s declining economics have had a major impact on the data center performance and sustainability.
Mr. Brill founded the Uptime Institute, often called the “The Global Data Center Authority” in 1993. In 2009, the Institute was acquired by The 451 Group, a technology-industry analyst company.
Mr. Brill held an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Redlands and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

He also received an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Redlands and a Lifetime Achievement Awards from 7×24 Exchange International and Datacenter Dynamics.
