Yotta Data Services, the data center and cloud services company backed by the Hiranandani Group, has announced expansions in Greater Noida and Guwahati in 2024. The ‘D1’ data center in Greater Noida will witness the addition of two new buildings, while work on an ‘edge’ data center in Guwahati has commenced. Both expansions are slated to be operational by mid-to-late 2024.

Currently, the Yotta-D1 data center is at 85% capacity, with plans for a total of six large-scale buildings. Construction is underway for the D2 and D3 facilities, with D2 racks expected to go live in July or August. Yotta has received incentives from the Uttar Pradesh government to support its data center operations in the National Capital Region.

In parallel, Yotta is strategically expanding into Tier II markets, addressing the evolving demand for such facilities. The company is proceeding cautiously, aligning its expansion with market demand.

The Guwahati facility is expected to be operational in nine to 10 months, following a contract signing with a major customer. Yotta has identified Bhubaneswar and Nagpur as additional markets for expansion, complementing the seven regions where land has been acquired for data center capacity growth.

The increasing adoption of 5G is anticipated to drive IoT and AI-driven use cases, such as real-time data caching for applications like agricultural drones, thereby fueling the need for edge data centers.

“There was already a demand for AI-driven data, but India did not have the infrastructure to build and develop AI models locally until now. That’s where our opportunity now lies, where we at Yotta are building our own native full-stack cloud platform as an alternative to AWS, Azure and GCP. This platform will go live in February and the demand is driven by the ChatGPT-driven craze,” said Sunil Gupta, CEO of Yotta.

Gupta also emphasized the unique approach to edge data centers, noting a simplified structure for scalability. The blueprints for 2MW Yotta edge data centers, on small 3-hectare plots, optimize costs and construction time. Yotta’s goal is to leverage its expertise to build and operationalize similar data centers in just four months after the initial three facilities, contributing to the evolving landscape of data infrastructure in India.
