Digital Realty, a leading global provider of cloud- and carrier-neutral data center solutions, has unveiled its inaugural data center in India, strategically situated on a 10-acre campus in Chennai’s industrial and manufacturing hub. This state-of-the-art facility has the capacity to support up to 100 megawatts of critical IT load, marking a significant expansion of Digital Realty’s global data center platform.

Anticipating India’s ascent to the world’s third-largest economy by 2027, surpassing Japan and Germany, Digital Realty is positioning itself to address the escalating demand for high-quality data center infrastructure in the country. The newly launched campus, known as MAA10, is a pivotal component of Digital Realty’s mission to deliver cutting-edge and highly interconnected digital infrastructure tailored to diverse customer requirements.

Serene Nah, Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific at Digital Realty, expressed the company’s commitment to the Indian market, stating, “With a population of 1.4 billion and a growing focus on the delivery of digital services, India represents a key market opportunity for Digital Realty and our partners and customers. We believe MAA10’s next-generation data center infrastructure and Digital Realty’s connected global open data center platform provide the foundational pillars our customers need to innovate and tap into this thriving market. We look forward to helping our customers accelerate their digital ambitions in India.”

Developed by Digital Connexion, a joint venture involving Digital Realty, Brookfield Asset Management, and Reliance Industries Limited, MAA10 is designed to help businesses navigate the challenges associated with emerging technologies and digital transformation initiatives in India.

Key to MAA10’s success is its deep interconnectivity, leveraging Jio’s extensive digital and connectivity ecosystem to provide seamless connectivity across India. This facility is also an integral part of PlatformDIGITAL®, Digital Realty’s global data center platform, connecting a diverse community of customers, partners, cloud and network service providers across the globe. The data center is set to be ServiceFabric™-enabled this year, enabling customers to swiftly configure and provision connectivity on-demand across their digital infrastructure.

CB Velayuthan, CEO of Digital Connexion, expressed excitement about the launch, stating, “We are excited about the launch of our first data center in Chennai. This 100MW campus in Ambattur is ideal, given the availability of the necessary power supply, high number of submarine cable landing stations in the local area, and the state government’s aspirations to make Chennai the top data center destination in India. We look forward to making this campus a destination of choice for customers, partners, cloud and service providers looking to expand their reach in India, starting with MAA10, the state-of-the-art first phase of this highly scalable campus.”

MAA10, the first phase of the 100MW-capable campus, offers 20MW of IT load with a modular infrastructure design, allowing customers to scale their infrastructure as needed, from single cabinets to multi-megawatt requirements. The facility is equipped to support emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, offering standardized and customized configurations to meet high-density power requirements, efficient cooling infrastructure, and the connectivity demands of AI workloads, reaching up to 70 kilowatts per rack.

MAA10’s design, construction, and operational practices prioritize sustainability, with a focus on maximizing energy and water efficiency, along with resource conservation. The facility aims to leverage renewable energy sources, starting with solar power harvested through rooftop solar panels on-site, benefiting from the expertise of Brookfield in renewable energy.

The launch of MAA10 represents a significant milestone for Digital Realty in India, positioning the company to play a crucial role in fostering digital innovation and supporting the evolving needs of businesses in the region.
